FAQ
Yes. For most people, physical therapy is one of the most effective first steps for back pain, neck pain, and sciatica, often working as well as or better than rest, injections, or surgery for common causes. We work to calm irritated nerves and tight muscles first, then rebuild the strength and movement that keep pain from coming back. Most patients notice a difference within the first few visits.
No, our approach is intentionally gentle. We use hands-on techniques to ease tension and get more space in the joint before we ever ask you to push into exercise, and we scale everything to what your body can actually handle that day. Patients often tell us this is exactly why they stuck with our version of treatment when other approaches felt like too much.
It depends on how long you've had the problem and how severe it is. A recent strain or flare-up often improves in just a handful of visits, while pain that's been building for months or years typically takes longer and a more specific approach. We'll give you a realistic estimate after your first evaluation and work with you to make recovery as efficient as possible, including home exercises to support progress between visits.
Chiropractic care generally focuses on spinal adjustment, while physical therapy combines hands-on treatment with a personalized exercise program to address the muscle weakness or movement pattern causing the pain in the first place. Many patients use both at different points in their recovery. If you're not sure which fits your situation, call us and we're happy to talk it through.
Yes, and this is actually where we spend a lot of our time. Chronic pain responds differently than a new injury, and it usually needs a slower, more specific approach rather than generic exercises. Dr. Clemens has over 30 years of experience working with long-standing, complex pain, and many patients are surprised by how much is still possible even after years of dealing with it.
Yes. Tension headaches and headaches triggered by neck stiffness or posture are one of the more common problems we treat, and they often improve significantly once the neck itself is addressed. If your headaches are related to your jaw or face rather than your neck, visit our TMJ page instead, we treat that separately.
No referral is required to start physical therapy in West Virginia, though your insurance may need one for coverage, so it's worth a quick call to confirm before you come in. Your first visit typically runs 40-60 minutes. We'll talk through your history and goals, do a hands-on evaluation and some movement testing, and walk you through a plan before you leave. Bring a picture ID, your insurance card, a list of any medications, and any prior imaging or referral you have. We'll send a short intake form ahead of time so paperwork doesn't eat into your visit, and comfortable, stretchy clothing you can move in makes the evaluation easier.

Marnie is so knowledgable...She never made me feel silly about my complaints or concerns, rather she listened to me with understanding and taught me a lot. I would love for other women to know that this kind of care is available.
